Remote Working Wellness Tips

Remote Working Wellness Tips

At Rival, we believe that maintaining wellness while working remotely is not only important for our employees but also for our partners and customers. It can be easy to stop being active when you don’t need to leave your home. Our HR Generalist, Christie Gray, has some helpful tips for maintaining and building your physical and mental wellness while working remotely.

1.      Establish a Routine: Try talking a walk before or after starting work, schedule times for a lunch break, and times to get up for refilling water/coffee/tea during the day, or just to stretch your legs and rest your eyes. Having a structured routine helps maintain a sense of normalcy, balance, and productivity throughout the day.

2.       Prioritize Mental Well Being:  Find what works for you to support your mental wellbeing! For some people it may be meditation, deep breathing, or journaling; for others it may be reading, reflection, or going for a walk, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature, make time for activities that nourish your mind and spirit.

3.      Stay Active: Make physical activity a priority by incorporating regular exercise into your daily routine. Whether it’s going for a walk, practicing yoga, running a marathon, or doing a workout, staying active helps boost mood, energy levels, and overall well-being.

4.      Maintain Social Connections: Stay connected with colleagues, friends, and family members. Sometimes we may feel too tired, or like we’d rather just stay in our bubble, but it’s important to be intentional and uphold your commitments.  A few suggestions:

a.       Try scheduling virtual coffee breaks with your teammates where the goal is to not talk about work. At Rival we have an App which automatically pairs us up for virtual coffee dates bi-weekly!

b.       Have regular team meetings to discuss various topics to help build a sense of comradery. Rival has monthly Ted Talk sessions where we watch a clip and discuss the concept as a team.

c.       Schedule monthly dinners with your social network. Try new restaurants if the budget permits, have theme nights where everyone cooks a certain style of food…there are many ideas to help both stretch yourself and stay connected.

d.       Build your social network! Try joining a team sport, finding a club, or taking a class at your local community center.

5.      Create a Dedicated Workspace: Set up a designated workspace in your home! This helps maintain separation between work and home, and can be conducive to productivity and focus. Make your workspace comfortable! Try and keep it organized, and free from distractions to optimize concentration and efficiency while working remotely.

6.     Find ways to encourage each other at work: At Rival, we have a Health and Wellness channel where we share what we’re doing for wellness, including our routines, recipes, and create fitness challenges.  This creates accountability and generates some excitement around wellness 😊

Commit to incorporating some, or all, these practices into your daily routine for a month to see what it’s like and how it helps! These are just a few ways that you can effectively maintain wellness in a remote environment and support your overall health and well-being.
